UNICEF Haiti Appeal: Please Show Your Support

An injured child receives medical treatment after Haiti's earthquake
18 Jan 2010

Wherever you are in the world, you'll have no doubt read about the horrific earthquake that struck Haiti last week on 12th January.

The devastating disaster measured 7.0 on the Richter scale, causing a humanitarian crisis to unfold; schools have collapsed, family homes destroyed and hospitals overwhelmed by the large numbers of injured coming in for urgent and much needed medical assistance. Survivors are still being pulled out from the rubble nearly a week later.

Global children's charity UNICEF is working to ensure that the rights of children affected in Haiti are not forgotten and as a UNICEF UK ambassador, Robbie is asking for your support with this emergency appeal.

UNICEF is deploying necessary supplies to Jacmel and Port-au-Prince as quickly as possible to assist with recovery efforts including clean water and sanitation, therapeutic foods, medical supplies and temporary shelter. The organisation will be focusing on children who have become separated from their families to protect them from harm or exploitation.

Expert estimates suggest that 46 per cent of Haiti’s nearly 10 million people are under 18 years of age and so it's essential that the special needs of children for food, shelter and protection are factored in at the very outset of relief efforts. UNICEF are doing everything in its power to make sure these needs are met.

Please show your support for the children of Haiti by donating to UNICEF appeal… no donation is too small, or too big.

DE44, I agree with you. but I'm not putting in question people's goodwill. Like I said everybody should help and thanks to people like Rob they're helping. What bothers me is that some people use this to promote themselves (no, I don't include Rob here), this is horrible. I just wrote that here because it was bothering me and I nedded to let it go. I don't care if some are gonna think I'm radical or whatever. I just think that we should open our eyes from time to time and see what is really happening around us. Keep helping Haiti.

@Giulis Of course people, whoever they are, could have done something b4. But we are all human and busy with our lives, and it's only when something big happens that we are reminded that there is so much do to help the rest of the world...and that's its time to move our ...... and our dime. As for ROB, he's very active in his childhood area (which also needs help) and it's great of him to have concentrated on something where he can really see the difference. And for the rest of the world, his involvement in Unicef, certainly brings pennies in the kitty. It is not really fair to put in question the goodwill of all those who are helping Haïti now and not before (and we don't know what they do on a regular unpublicised basis). At least they are there when called and thanks to them the needed attraction to this terrible event is spread worldwide. It's the result that counts by whatever means it is achieved.... Thanks and bravo to all donors, famous or not ....... Cheers

I think is funny that now everybody wants to help. of course is valid, because of everything that is going on now. But I must remind you that Haiti is one of the poorest, if not the poorest country in the world, and before the tragedy nobody cared, or only a few cared! the attitude that Robbie and others are taking is noble and all, but where were they before that? I know that Robbie helps a lot, but where were the campaings before the earthquake? no one raised a flag to Haiti and I know for sure that lots of people didn´t even know about a country called Haiti! that said, let´s help.

It was really shocking incident in Haiti. Many are talking about it and many countries are now joining and cooperating to offer help to the victims of the incident. If you want to donate to charity through one of the text message campaigns, check the bona fides before you do. Some are legit, and aren't run by scammers that will send you running for payday loans and a lawyer to try and sue some con artist into the Stone Age, who the Chinese won't extradite. For instance, text Haiti to 90999 is the American Red Cross, text Haiti to 501501 is the Wyclef Jean ran foundation, and text Haiti to 20222 is the Clinton Foundation. If you were thinking of donating to Haitian earthquake relief via text message, those three are likely the best bets.

Thanks to Robbie and his team of work for worrying for the Ahiti children. “ Such is hope, heaven's own gift to struggling mortals, pervading, like some subtle essence from the skies, all things both good and bad.” –Charles Dickens-

Robbie Williams is very good for you your heart you are very generous and I swear, if you are financially then I would give money but, unfortunately, what little we have. I'm trying to save pounds and it worked and then I give them a little money to the poor child breaks my heart when I know that someone is suffering. :'( :)
