Take That Progress Live 2011 9th July 2011 Wembley Stadium, London
A truly "magical" evening, a show that combined a record breaking 8th show at Wembley Stadium, with Robbie Williams reunited with Take That. This, the final UK show of the tour reached full capacity at the grand figure of 85,291.
The show opened with Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange and Mark Owen, performing, "Rule the World", followed by, "Greatest Day". It must have been a great challenge for them to follow their previous amazing Circus Tour, but they did follow it with an awesome and amazing night. They kept the idea of the stage being extended, from the centre, so they could walk on a platform quite a distance into the audience. Again visually this worked very well. There were many costume characters, a caterpillar, a butterfly, some bumble bees, and later characters on black and white squares, making a life sized chess set, to add to the entertainment!
Gary, who writes a lot of the songs, thanked the audience for turning up about ten minutes into the show. It was great to feel so appreciated so early on. It has been twenty years since Take That first formed. They still must be the sexiest movers of an all male band, with the band members, Jason and Donald choreographing many of their dance routines.
Robbie then appeared on stage performing many of his solo hits. He commenced with, "Let Me Entertain You". This indeed he did, undoubtedly. Robbie did not hold back, he reintroduced himself, "My name is Robbie ******* Williams." So although not making it a family show suitable for all ages, his stage performance was powerful and passionate. He looked close to tears on a few occasions and said that some people that he knew had died recently and he dedicated, "Angels" to them. He helpfully called out some of the lyrics to queue in the audience who were singing it with him. He looked magnificent all dressed in black. He grasped and held hands with some of the audience members, whilst singing, "Come and hold my hand." He seemed totally moved by the reunion.
Some of the audience members had been queuing up since about 8 am in the morning, for this evening show. After Robbie's set, all five original band members were on stage to sing many of their much loved and well known songs.
"Pray" has a sentimental tune that can run through you and people did indeed, "Take That and Party", they were in a party mood throughout the show. Mark sang some of, "Babe" a song which his voice and persona is most suited for. Much of his talented solo work, which culminated in a DVD of him performing live at the Academy in Islington, London, may not have come to many people's attention if he had not been in Take That.
The Wembley Stadium show included, "Light My Fire", "Patience, "It Only Takes a Minute" and "Shine". An amazing Saturday night and a truly, "magical atmosphere".
