Advertising Space

The second single to be taken from Robbie's fastest-selling album, Intensive Care, Advertising Space is a mournful ballad describing a superstar's fall from grace.

Jokingly described by Robbie as his Candle in The Wind, he says: "It's my True Romance song, the one where, like Christian Slater in the film, I like to believe that I have direct access to Elvis Presley every now and again."

Advertising Space

There's no earthly way of knowing
What was in your heart
When it stopped going
The whole world shook
A storm was blowing through you

Waiting for God to stop this
And up to your neck in darkness
Everyone around you was corrupted
Saying somethin'

There's no dignity in death
To sell the world your last breath
They're still fighting over
Everything you left over

I saw you standing at the gates
When Marlon Brando passed away
You had that look upon your face
Advertising space

And
No one learned from your mistakes
We let our profit s go to waste
All that's left in any case
Is Advertising space

Through your eyes
The world was burning
Please be gentle
I'm still learning
You seemed to say
As you kept turning up

They poisoned you with compromise
At what point did you realise
Everybody loves your lies
But you ahahh

Special agent for the man
Through watergate and vietnam
No one really gave a damn
Did you think the CIA did

I saw you standing at the gates
When Marlon Brando passed away
You had that look upon your face
Advertising space

And
No one learned from your mistake
We let our profits go to waste
All that's left in any case
Is Advertising space ooooohh

I saw you standing at the gates
When Marlon Brando passed away
You had that look upon your face
Advertising space

No one learned from your mistakes
We let our profits go to waste
All that's left in any case
Is Advertising space

I've seen your daughter
Man shes cute
I was scared but I wanted to
Boy she looks a lot like you

Don't Say No 4:06 Lyrics

Don't Say No

When we were only seventeen
And thrown into society
That was the end of you and me
From what we could have been

And if we didn't keep in touch
I guess we didn't care that much
We never understood that stuff
But now I need you

I never meant to let you down
But letting you down was easy

Didn't it break your heart
Maybe I'm just too needy
Do any of you still need me
In your lives, in your heart
Don't say yes
Just to please me
If you're still you and you want
Don't say no

We fought together
Laughed together
Said things that we hoped were clever
The thought of missing you forever
Makes me want to cry
And now that you've grown up to be
A sentimental memory
Are you still you ‘cos I'm still me
At least I hope so

A life beginning somewhere else
It was our time to die

Didn't it break your heart
Maybe I'm just too needy
Do any of you still need me
In your life, in your heart
Don't say yes
Just to please me
If you're still you and you want
Don't say no

So what do you know
Where do you go
Has it been fun
Oh did you survive being buried alive
Like I did

Didn't it break your heart
Maybe I'm just too needy
Do any of you still need me
In your life, in your heart
Don't say yes
Just to please me
If you're still you and you want
Don't say no

Advertising Space

Perhaps the most conclusive confirmation that the pairing of Robbie Williams and Stephen Duffy was a wise one, ‘Advertising Space' possesses wraparound majesty, and is almost profoundly cinematic. "This is my True Romance' song," he says, "the one where, like Christian Slater in the film, I like to believe I have direct access to Elvis Presley every now and then." Elegiac and mournful, it describes a superstar's tragic fall from grace. Robbie jokingly describes it as his own ‘Candle In The Wind'. It's not, of course. It's less cheesy by a full Edam, for starters.
