Candy

Candy was the first single to be released from Robbie's No.1 album Take The Crown.

Written with Gary Barlow and as addictive as the subject of its title, here's what Robbie had to say about the release:

It’s a summer song about a girl who thinks she’s great. And she might be, but she’s a bit nefarious with her ways. Some songs take an age to write and some songs just fall out of your mouth, completely formed, and you don’t have to think about it. I don’t know why that fell out of my mouth and out of my brain at that particular time - it just did.

The track went straight to No.1 in the UK following its release in October 2012 and became Robbie's 14th career Number 1. The video, which saw Robbie play a (very modern) guardian angel protecting the subject of the song's title, experienced equal success, being crowned best video at the 4Music Video Honours.

Candy 3:21 Lyrics

I was there to witness
Candice's inner business
She wants the boys to notice
Her rainbows and her ponies
She was educated
but could not count to ten
Now she got lots of different
horses by lots of different men

And I say liberate your
Sons and daughters
The bush is hot
but in the hole there’s water
You can get some
When they give it
Nothing’s sacred
but it’s a living

Hey, ho here she go
Either a little too high
or a little too low
Got no self esteem and vertigo
Cos she thinks
she’s made of candy
Hey, ho here she go
Either a little too loud
or a little too close
Got a hurricane
at the back of her throat
Cos she thinks
she’s made of candy

Ring a ring of roses
Whoever gets the closest
She comes and she goes as
The war of the roses
Mother was a victim,
Father beat the system
By moving bricks to Brixton
and learning how to fix them

Liberate your
Sons and daughters
The push is high
but in the hole there’s water
As you will she’ll be
the whole of the law
And if it don’t feel good
What are you doing it for?

Now tell me
Hey, ho here she go
Either a little too high
or a little too low
Got no self esteem and vertigo
Cos she thinks
she’s made of candy
Hey, ho here she go
Either a little too loud
or a little too close
Got a hurricane
at the back of her throat
Cos she thinks
she’s made of candy

Liberate your
Sons and daughters
The bush is high
but in the hole there’s water
As you will she’ll be
the whole of the law
And if it don’t feel good
What are you doing it for?
What are you doing it for?
(Repeat)

Hey, ho here she go
Either a little too high
or a little too low
Got no self esteem and vertigo
Cos she thinks
she’s made of candy
Hey, ho here she go
Either a little too loud
or a little too close
Got a hurricane
at the back of her throat
Cos she thinks
she’s made of candy
(Repeat)
