Hey, I was there with a dear friend of mine. We drove 8 hours from Ottawa, Ontario straight thru to Washington, with enough time to change and head to the show. It was so awesome to see him in a small venue. Felt like I could of reached out and touch him. I wish..........
I came to DC the night before on assignment and ended up visiting a friend I'd met at UCLA. She was in grad school at Johns Hopkins and invited me along to the show at the 9:30 Club. At that time, I only knew Robbie from MTV. Then I saw him perform. My head nearly exploded about six, seven different times. Then he did the "Woo hoo" cover and it finally did explode.
My friend Sara and I still talk about that show. I became a devoted fan that night. I try to explain to people how cool that show was and they look at me like I'm insane. I say, "He plays to sold-out stadiums in Europe, big stadiums" and they think I'm insane.
I think about that show now, often while watching clips from Knebworth, and think, "There's no way I'm ever getting that close to Robbie ever again." We were so lucky to have caught him in such a tiny venue. Fabulous, sweaty, lovely - times ten. Come back, Robbie! Come back to the U.S.!
