Take a look back at the highs and lows of Robbie's career:
1974: Robert Peter Williams is born in Stoke on Trent on 13 February
1990: Sixteen-year-old Robbie joins Take That as the youngest member after his mum spots an advert
1991: Take That's first single 'Promises' reaches number 38
1993: The group acheive their first number one with 'Pray' and global superstardom follows
1995: After problems in the band and Robbie becoming increasingly distant from the other boys, he leaves Take That and is later seen partying with Oasis at Glastonbury
1996: Robbie signs a solo deal with Chrysalis and releases his first solo single, a cover of George Michael's 'Freedom' which reaches number two
1997: After his debut solo album 'Life Thru a Lens' records slow sales, the fourth single Angels is released. It becomes a huge hit and Robbie, the solo superstar is born. In the same year Robbie also meets and begins dating All Saints singer Nicole Appleton.
1998: Second album 'I've Been Expecting You' is released and goes straight to number one. It also spawns massive singles 'No Regrets' and 'She's The One' and goes on to sell over three million copies in the UK alone.
2000: Robbie releases 'Kids' with Kylie Minogue followed by another duet with an Australian star 'Something Stupid' with Nicole Kidman the year after.
2003: Robbie performs at Knebworth in front of over 300,000 fans and a further 3.5 million more on television and online. It's reputedly the biggest UK pop concert ever
2005: The British public vote 'Angels' as the Best Single of the past 25 years at the Brit Awards. In the same year the star takes the MTV Europe Music Award for Best Male and also enters the Guinness Book of World Records when his World Tour for 2006 sells 1.6 million tickets in one single day.
2006: Rob changes direction with the more electronic sounding Rudebox. In the same year his former band Take That reform without him and Beautiful World is a huge hit.
2007: Robbie begins dating American actress Ayda Field
2009: Robbie performs Bodies on the X Factor and later appears with contestant Olly Murs
2010: In June Robbie announces the release of greatest hits album 'In and Out of Consciousness' to celebrate 20 years in the music industry. Then in July, the news all fans have been waiting for, Rob announces he is rejoining Take That and will release an album with the band in November.
It's a good year for Rob as he also ties the knot with girlfriend Ayda Field in California.
