The Super Metro League Comes To An End

LA Vale star, Dayle Burton, sums up the team's performance...

With the outcome of the Super Metro season hinging on an administrative ruling (see Jamie's great explanation) LA Vale fans were waiting to see what happened between Burbank Red Machine and the number two team, LA United SC.

Burbank had a slow start to the season but had ended up with a few wins and, while we were all hoping Guadalajara or Quinta Linda might take a point off LA United SC, it seemed more likely that Burbank would do the business.

Originally scheduled to take place over the Thanksgiving weekend, the Burbank Red Machine vs LA United SC game was finally set for this last weekend (Sunday, 2nd December) but it didn't happen and LA United SC were awarded the forfeit 1-0 per the league rules.

This was probably the worst of all outcomes for the Vale, who are now left to rue the administrative ruling that has seen us docked three points for the Saturday night game in early November against LA Union. But what does it really mean?

The Chairman, the Coach and the Club decided back in June to work two campaigns in parallel, an unprecedented ambition in the City of Los Angeles. We won the LA Premier League and we were unbeaten by a legitimate opponent in the Super Metro division of the City of Los Angeles Parks league. Our achievement is best illustrated by our victory over LA United SC back in August at UCLA - United have been in the Super Metro division for a good few years now, and are part of the league's fixture and fittings in a way - certainly one of the better run clubs in LA and very worthy opponents. LA Vale played a strong game that Sunday and won 1-0. A victory over one of LA's best - the only head to head this season (think Manchester United vs Liverpool here!). There are some great video clips of that game!

Coach Dean ran two fantastic campaigns with some unbelievable obstacles: who'd have reckoned on such a shocking injury to first choice goalkeeper Rocco; Chris Edgar's knee blowing out - no footie for 7 months; who'd have thought most of the latter half of the seasons games ended up being back to back days; who'd have thought we'd play three games in four days. But then, who'd have thought Deano would get three hatricks on the trot? Who'd have put money on Nick Emmerson's run of goalscoring under such pressure at the season's end? And what about big Adam, the goalie, playing unfront? Unbelievable stuff, what a season.

Running two campaigns and celebrating our remarkable achievements is one thing, but really what LA Vale have done is announced their arrival to the City of Angels.
