England Victorious At Soccer Aid

28 May 2012

Last night saw the fourth Soccer Aid take place, at Manchester’s Old Trafford, and it was another huge success, both on and off the pitch. By the time the final whistle had blown, England had their hands firmly on the cup with a 3-1 victory and the total figure pledged by viewers alone had already reached £2 million, and with the UK government matching donations pound for pound, it immediately shot up to £4 million. Stay tuned for the final figure!

With almost 70,000 fans turning out to cheer on their heroes, it was an exciting night of football. Kasabian’s Sergio Pizzorno, who was later awarded Man Of The Match, knocked in a wonderful first half goal, but the England team hit home no less than three in the second half, with goals from Teddy Sheringham, Jonathan Wilkes and Kevin Phillips, to clinch a well deserved victory.

Robbie had said in his Mexico City diary that he wanted to add some “66 style passion to the pitch”, this was certainly the case when the boys smashed in three goals!

Soccer Aid might be over but you can continue to help UNICEF to save children’s lives; your support provides food, vaccines and other life-saving supplies to children around the world who desperately need it, all To find out more about how the money raised by yesterday’s event will be used and why Soccer Aid is so important follow Unicef UK on Facebook and Twitter.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to Soccer Aid 2012 and for making it such a huge success!

Was I really there? Well the camera can lie;) What a day, what a day....wish Robbie could have scored for us;) Congratulations on spawning such an amazing fund raiser ...and for breathing flesh into the avatars - the arena of dreams where virtual Friendlies became real friends. Ty for the thumbs up btw;)

Returned from Manchester! . This year it was our second attendance after 2008 at Wembley. And again, what a great experience at Old Trafford! . Excellent mood, the chanting crowd and a win for England will stay in my memory. . A special thank to Rob for organizing it with all your fellows in both of the teams. Unbelievable to see you all united in this celebrity friendly match. We have lots of fun and we were glad to contribute with our tickets a small part to the big donation. . Beyond it, we combined it with the weekend trip to Manchester (yes, we also visted the Etihad ;-) and with a day trip to Liverpool the home of THE BEATLES. . We took with us home a big bunch of wonderful memories which made the days unforgetable for us. :-))) . Looking forward to meeting you and the crowd again in Soccer Aid 2014! . P. S.: Rob, don´t be jealous, as Mike Myers left a special impression to me. ;-) "GROOVY BABY, YEAAAAAAAAH" as Austin Powers would say. *loooooooooooooooooooooooooooool* . Cheers also to Manchester for its hospitality! . And now you can concentrate on your wife and your baby again! . Greetings from Bavaria, Lilly with family . *•.¸(*•.¸♡¸.•*´.)¸.•*´ «´¨•° Thank you, thank you, thank you! •¨`» ¸.•*(¸.•*´♡`*•.¸)`*•.¸ .

What a day, what a day, what a day... ** What more is there to say...? EXCEPT... Being at Old Trafford to see you and all your friends was wonderful. The atmosphere was electric, the noise was awesome, you looked so happy. And the icing on the cake for me was meeting so many of the friendlies from off here, from RW Funpoker, and from our little "Friendlies Group" – it was just incredible. I didn't make the big pub pre-match meet, which I'm gutted about, but I did manage to meet up with such fantastic people on the day and the day after the match. It made the trip to Manchester for me complete. I flew over from Belfast, and am so glad I did. (And thanks to my wee brother for accompanying me - I think he enjoyed it too, and meeting some of the gorgeous friendlies made his day!!) "It's coming home" blasting around Old Trafford made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end when the trophy was being paraded round the stadium by the England team, just fantastic!!! ** So all that's left for me to say right now is well done Rob and Jonny, well done Jools68 for making the arrangements for the pre-match meet - looked like a mighty time was had by all, thanks to Amanda, Jenny, Regine, Sara, Julie and Julie. Meeting you all was wonderful and I can't wait to meet you and more the next time. ** Rob, could you please give us some notice for the Friendlie gig, so that we can get the wheels in motion for our next big get together? ** Thank you again each and every one. ** With much love from the Belfast friendlie xxxxxxxxxxxxx

OMG...You look like a little kid, Rob.....never seen you so happy! * Enormously proud of you and Jonny for starting Soccer Aid and raising millions for the neediest in the world. Bless you! XXXXXXX
