Take That 'Speechless' As Ticket Sales Smash Records

30 Oct 2010

A record breaking one million tickets were snapped up yesterday when Take That fever hit the nation as many of you tried to secure tickets to one of their Progress Live 2011 dates. This huge number means that the band have smashed their own previous box office record set in 2008 with The Circus Live Tour.

Massive demand for the tickets this morning caused phone lines and websites across the country to jam as ticket agents struggled to cope with the totally unprecedented number of people trying to buy the hottest tickets in town.

In response to the unfortunate downtime experienced by ticketing giant Ticketmaster yesterday, they made the foliowing statement:

'Due to totally unprecedented demand, all ticket agents across the UK, including Ticketmaster, struggled to cope with the sheer volume of people logging onto websites to buy Take That tickets. Across the day Ticketmaster alone has so far received over 20m page views from visitors arriving on the site, far in excess of that experienced for Michael Jackson last March. The sheer volume of fans also created problems for the UK telephone network.

We had planned for the demand for Take That tickets to potentially exceed anything we’d ever experienced before at Ticketmaster, and believed that we would be able to respond, but we have undoubtedly seen an unparalleled level of demand today and whilst hundreds and thousands of tickets have been sold we know that many of our consumers have experienced frustrating delays in securing their tickets.

We apologise for these problems and acknowledge that this is far from the experience we usually deliver.  We can only ask that fans trying to secure tickets keep trying online or through our call centre, as tickets are still available and extra dates have been added since 9am, in response to this incredible demand for next summer’s concerts.'

Thousands of people also camped out overnight outside the stadium box offices to ensure they were amongst the first to get their hands on tickets for the band’s highly anticipated tour next year.

We are speechless, truly and utterly shocked," said Take That. "This is the most amazing news for all of us. To sell one million tickets in a day is mind-blowing and we think we’ll be in shock for a few days! We want to thank everyone who has bought tickets today and look forward to seeing them next year.

Promoter Simon Moran commented: "The excitement of the on sale and the demand for the tickets today was at another level to the Circus tour which at the time was itself record-breaking. There literally has never been anything like it in the history of live music in the UK. Selling a million tickets in day is an absolutely amazing achievement."

im very doubtful that you sold million tickets! this is what the TT manager said and sounds like a PR! ticketmaster.co.uk - the site with the most sold tickets for the tour- had reprorted that the number of the sold tickets on it was several thousand! take that, Williams and co.!

Espero que robbie williams esté en la gira tambien, de lo contrario no tiene gracia.

Out of curiosity just looked on Eventtravel and there are still a few tickets available. You're gonna need about £200 minimum ticket and acommodation though!

Happy to have tickets but not happy about the way it was all handled. I ended up being one of those who had to pay stupid prices to get tickets off people who are not real fans - having bought loads of tickets just to sell on. Also....this silly "due to phenomenal demand we are releasing extra dates" rubbish - they know how many dates and where and when -release them all at the same time to give people a realistic chance - felt like a bit of a con.Don't want to moan about the boys at all - but their promo people just look greedy - especially in current economic climate - look at the interest being made on our money between now and June. I too believe fan club members should get first dibs at tickets.Sorry to moan but I hope that these comments are looked at by Rob's and Take That's people and they take note of true fans concerns xxx

Hold your heads high Robbie fans. The forums here kept me sane during Friday's drama, I think we can all agree with that. The info everyone was happy to share ended up being what got me tickets via Ticketmaster Ireland, and the support everyone was offering out was phenomenal. I thought the problems were mine alone as I was trying from Australia but, sadly, they affected us all the same. I agree with the fee for the previous Inner Sanctum, it was wonderful to get pre sale tickets, I don't think it stops those wishing to trade on ebay but it offers respect to the fans. Friday was all about dis respect. I was lucky, only 5 and 1/2 hours to get my 2 tickets (yes, I only got the 2 I needed) and I offer HUGE respect to all of you who were battling much longer. TT are quite innocent in this but management need to ensure their "product" never gets in this situation again. Find a promoter with a brain, not the current George W Bush (what? that fluffy white cloud in the satellite photo broke the New Orleans levies!!), who can forsee the demand these tickets were going to get. Employ a better system for purchase (staggered days for the sale, or individual venues using one and only one agency) and tighter restrictions on the collection of tickets. ebay is so prevalent in a great many of these ticket sale fiasco's, all over the world, you cannot tell me that a fairer system of checks and balances cannot be figured out by those earning the big money in these corporations. Again, we should all be proud of our community here, many of whom are hurting, and I send my thanks and love to you all. SusanAdelaide xoxoxox

I do agree with your comments about the possibility of getting tickets earlier, true fans suscribe to "fan clubs" and the fact that the Inner Sanctum was closed to anymore new memebers a few years ago, proves that anyone who is still a member is a true fan, i couldn't beleive that there were 2 "standing" tickets from Wembley on e-bay for a £1000, absolutly mental.

I totally agree with what your all saying!! My sister is wheelchair bound due to her suffering with a muscle wasting disease therefore we are limited to wheelchair accessible seating. Me, my mam, plus my aunty were trying to get hold of tickets both on the phone and internet for either Sunderland or Manchester it took 14 hours for me to get through on the phone to then be told that it was sold out! I think it is discussing that people are been allowed to buy tickets and then sell them on to make money while in the meantime you have genuine fans that are left devastated at not been able to get hold of them. Something should be put in place to stop this from happening.!!!!!

Tried ALL day, over 18 hours SOLID- crashing each time I got close to buying. So gutted as I wanted to take my 12yr old niece whose Mum has just a couple of weeks at most to live as she has advanced leukaemia. Why are people allowed to buy not just up to 8 tickets for one city, but all? No wonder the gangmasters worldwide give poor people a lot of money to flood the net and phonelines. That's without the unscrupulous "fans" who buy far more than they need and then put them STRAIGHT up for sale to try and make mega-bucks. How do I tell this sad child she can't go to see them? Gutted for myself too - I have Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma and although I am ok now I may well not be if and when they tour again. Last years gig at Sunderland made my year, as I had a terrible time with chemo etc. GUTTED. How on earth did they not expect this response for tickets when the Robster is back?!!!

i would like to know the answers to these questions 1 why were people allowed to purchase 8 yes 8 tickets at a time and sell half on ebay. next tour why do'nt you let people buy 12 at a time. 2 why the promotor mr morgan allowed to sell tickets on his website is he not earning enough money promoting 3 why did'nt they let members purchase tickets first thats what happened in 2006 close encounter come on i think you guys owe your fans a few answers and not hid behind pa people a farce

I have also been very unlucky as have not managed to get tickets, have spent 2 days trying since 9am on friday, am very disappointed that can see tickets on ebay for hundreds of pounds, this is not fair on the true fans who want to see the 5 guys together. NOT HAPPY

HB35's picture

I am one of the unlukcy ones who despite spending 2 1/2 days now trying to get tickets do not have them. I agree I would pay the subscription fee again if I could purchase tickets a little earlier like we did before. This would hopefully stop a lot of the unfair selling on ebay. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am and my friends who are true fans too.

I know it's hard if you are desperate to get tickets (as I was, but eventually got a package from Eventtravel, yes, paid the price!), but don't get them from ebay....let those (I can't put what I really want to but it begins with "B") be out of pocket by not being able to sell them!!!! I and I'm sure many others would be prepared to pay a subscription again if it meant we could get tickets before general public. This goes for Robbie and Take That fans.

most of the fans going r going to see robbie , i know i am they sould have been ready for it , i had to get my tickets of ebay after trying for 14 hours , but manage to only pay 30 more , so worth it

Am so nervous now about getting tickets for the ONLY concert i Denmark! You ppl in England who can at least choose between various stadions to attend the concerts shouldn't be crying about having to go to another stadium than the one nearest to your home. I have never experienced Robbie live and I really hope to get the chance now! Never mind about the other 4...

keep trying guys , i got 2 tickets yesterday , there r some still out there , did pay 30 extra but think its worth it , see u at birmingham , good luck everyone xx
